Stewart's approach to teaching is grounded in the belief that musical understanding must be both intellectual and experiential — that students must not only know the theory but feel the music in their bodies and souls. He brings the same depth of engagement to the teaching studio that he brings to the concert hall.
He has taught oboe, composition, music theory, and music history at the university level and in private instruction, inspiring generations of musicians. His students have gone on to careers as performers, composers, conductors, and teachers across Canada and internationally.
Stewart offers private instruction in oboe, composition, and other areas of music. He is available for individual lessons, masterclasses, and workshops. To arrange instruction or to inquire about availability, please use the Contact page.
Stewart also offers classes and workshops in music appreciation, music history, and the art of listening — designed for both musicians and non-musicians who wish to deepen their relationship with music. These sessions draw on his lifetime of experience as a performer, composer, and conductor to illuminate the inner workings of great music in a way that is accessible and transformative.
